Today I’m taking a break from the regular weekly blog post—not because everyone is exhausted (which is true enough) but because we had a four-hour blackout in my neighborhood this afternoon! So now I’m too busy to create anything new, and time has run out.
Congratulations to former VP Joe Biden and Sen. Kamala Harris on a historic win. It feels like we can breathe again for the first time in four long years.
Hmm, four-hour blackout, four years…coincidence? Who knows?
See you next week.

Breaking Into the Top 100
Recently, I posted something on LinkedIn called Author, Entrepreneur, or Authorpreneur? My point was that, if you're interested in breaking into the top 100 in your Amazon category, you're probably going to have to spend some time acting like a businessperson when it...

Dreams, Memories, And Growing Up One Day At A Time
We use up too much artistry in our dreams—and therefore often are impoverished during the day. - Friedrich Nietzsche, The Wanderer and His Shadow Boy, ole Nietzsche really had it right, didn’t he? Last night I went through mental movies that ranged from being...

The Marketing Thing Vs. The Working Thing
Last week, I took a vacation with my lovely wife, and missed doing a blog post entirely. I see where WordPress has an option of writing and scheduling posts, but frankly, I was too busy doing that with my monthly newsletter. I figured I could ignore the blog for a...
Coming Soon: Rides From Strangers
I don't typically recommend blatant self-promotion in blog posts, though I do have a post here somewhere entitled Blatant Self-Promotion...ha! This week, however, I'm getting excited about my upcoming release, and decided it's time to talk about it again. I thought...

The Worst Mother’s Day Ever
Mother’s Day has always been kind of a tough holiday in my family. Mom’s got an early May birthday, so it seems like there’s virtually no breathing room between her birthday and Mother’s Day. It’s kind of like if your parent was born shortly before Christmas. You get...

Talking About A Metaphysical Work
On July 21st, I launched my fifth full-length work of fiction, Whizzers. I spent years working on about the first 30% of the novel, then burned through the remaining 70% from late 2018 through March 2019.So now it's the thing on the front burner. When I finished my...

When Your Sense of Humor Is One Part Vonnegut, Two Parts Hunter S. Thompson
Sometimes you have to really switch things up. Even shake them up. Such is the case with artists of all types, and I’m the kind of novelist who needs to shake things up from book to book. I've never written a series, and I don't think I could unless my life depended...

Nobody Likes Being Sick—But The Coronavirus Is Making People Scared Of Even Getting Sick
Readers of this blog undoubtedly know I sometimes create Monday posts geared toward providing helpful info, but also sometimes use it as my personal ranting space. Today's post is the latter, but it's going to be a short one. No, I don't have the coronavirus, but...

My Weird Juneteenth Reading Experience
Today is a federal holiday, the second year Juneteenth is officially recognized as such. I don’t have it off, and neither does my wife, but I respect the holiday and the need for it. In thinking about today’s blog, I wished I had something intelligent and insightful...

The End of a Good Run
I’ve had a pretty good run the last five or six weeks: last week’s blog post, entitled What Books Cost Their Authors: A Tale of Blood, Sweat & Tears, had the best “headline quality score” I’ve ever attained (yes, I run my headlines through an analyzer for SEO, to...
