Book Launch Time: The Biggest Day In A Writer’s Life

by | Apr 20, 2026 | Articles | 0 comments

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been posting a few hints about my upcoming book launch: Hot Scenes, available for preorder before its May 7 publication.

Anyone familiar with my work most likely knows I have some humor in most of my books. However, this launch marks the first time I have something broadly in the Satire and Humor categories. In short, it’s not a stretch.

The 2020s Version of Book Launches

Of course, things change constantly in the book biz, so a launch in 2026 looks much different than it did in 2019 when Whizzers came out.

These days, everyone’s using QR codes, even—well, especially—my lovely wife, who uses them for everything from ordering food to paying for items at the mall.

I’m still a Luddite, but I figured I’d best get with the program. Thus explains today’s blog post illustration, which should be scannable and take you right to Amazon. Fingers crossed!

Not Just Jokes

Of course, this book isn’t just jokes. It’s a story about a man at midlife facing his own mortality and striving—like a madman, you might say—to not only leave his mark on the world, but also to have as much fun as possible in the process.

I’ll leave it to readers to decide whether he’s an arrogant blowhard or just an unlikely antihero. My main warning is to buckle up before diving in: this novel is NOT for kids, and requires a dark, one might even say, twisted sense of humor.

I just proofread the paperback version, and I must say: I still laughed out loud a couple more times, even after reading, rereading, editing, and proofreading it. I hope you do, too.

Breaking Into the Top 100

Recently, I posted something on LinkedIn called Author, Entrepreneur, or Authorpreneur? My point was that, if you're interested in breaking into the top 100 in your Amazon category, you're probably going to have to spend some time acting like a businessperson when it...

Why Are You Being So Rude?

Hunter S. Thompson and Kurt Vonnegut were two of the people most responsible for me wanting to become a writer. I was a teenager, and couldn't believe you could actually get paid to be so rude, irreverent, and just plain weird. I used to love to turn people on to...

Ready to Launch Into 2019?

If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you’ll know I’ve shown an obsessive side lately – lots of content about my upcoming book launch. I’m releasing my fourth novel, Whizzers, in 2019. That means I’m putting a lot of emphasis on building my marketing plan well in...

Who Are Your Greatest Connections?

When it comes to networking, making connections with people who have a greater influence in your industry can be beneficial in ways that go on and on. This has proven true for many people, I'm sure, and I know I've seen it in my own experience. Two recent examples...

Authors As Self-Marketers

A couple years back, in an article about self-publishing, I wrote the following: If you’re an author with a traditional publishing contract, you don’t really have to be an entrepreneur as such; the publishing company does the marketing and PR for you, though you have...

Running Late Again?! Alas, It Was Merely a Dream

Writers, Don’t Forget to Write It Down!

It's happened to the best of us, right? You have a great idea, and you really should write it down. After all, you don't want to forget it. But it's well past midnight, and you're in bed. In fact, you're getting sleepy...very sleepy...your eyes are starting to --...

Are Authors Typically Obsessive-Compulsive?

Recently I’ve noticed a trend in author blogs toward the confessional. After all, no one wants to read about your characters all the time, and God knows that readers don’t want to read about marketing. They want to know something about you. Happy to oblige. Although...

Why You Shouldn’t Say “Happy Memorial Day”

I don't have a vested interest in Memorial Day. Although I have had many veterans in my family—father, both grandfathers, an uncle—none of them died in combat. However, in recent years, I've become aware of a troubling trend: that of treating every holiday with a...

Today's blog post is about Hot Scenes. That might not sound like it has anything to do with needing a laugh, but I hope you can trust me that it does. You see, for the first time in nearly seven years, I will be publishing a new novel. I'm pleased to announce that Hot...
