You may say I’m a dreamer / But I’m not the only one.
— Lennon/Ono
I’m not one for torturing people with long-winded recounting of what I dreamed last night. However, I’m also keenly aware that hardly anyone reads this blog, and that the few who do probably get a kick out of everything I post. So what the heck: in the words of Frank Zappa, “Torture time!”
I wrote here recently about keeping a dream journal, and I find it fascinating that I’ve had recurrent dreams that are variations on the basic theme of either being late for school or unable to find my mailbox on a college campus. According to DreamBible (surely an authoritative source, wink wink), running late in a dream represents feeling anxious or stressed during waking hours. Well, hell, who isn’t dealing with at least some level of stress in today’s wildly unpredictable world?
Anyhow, the dream class took place in a mall, which is pretty weird in itself, and had something to do with astronomy. There were only three or four other students besides me. When the professor asked us what our solar system has in common with the Rolling Stones (!), I ventured a guess that it had something to do with rhythm—that is, the moon rotates around Earth and the Earth rotates around the sun in a rhythmic pattern. I don’t remember if he gave us the correct answer, but I know mine was incorrect.
And then I woke up.
I have some way worse ones, but I’m assigning them to the protagonist of my next novel.
What about you? Any interesting themes in your dream life? I’d love to hear about them in the comments below.
